File:Władysław_Grabski.PNG[edit]
I've already uploaded a higher resolution, bigger file in .jpg (Władysław Grabski 1925.jpg). This one is unneeded. I have also replaced this photo with the new one in all wiki projects. Vearthy (talk) 13:45, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- Please also notice that the smaller one is a cropped version of the bigger one. It looks a bit different because it was sharpened and a bit lightened. JPG is saved in the maximum (best) quality, it doesn't have more faults than the PNG version. The second one uses just more space and is smaller. Vearthy (talk) 02:44, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Keep One man and several ways of viewing. --Starscream (talk) 13:58, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- Keep more of a different crop rather than a smaller version. Widths are nearly identical. Better to keep both and let projects choose which view they prefer. Carl Lindberg (talk) 14:36, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- Keep Comparing the jpg with the png, the jpg version seems to be of significantly lower quality. The fine details in the jpg are much more blurry. The jpg has an interesting crop, though. Why don't you scan it again with a much higher resolution and also a higher jpeg compression quality factor? 85.94.184.115 16:31, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- I can't do it, it's not my photo and it comes from the Internet. Vearthy (talk) 02:44, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Delete I may well be mistaken, but I think my colleagues above misunderstand. The JPG is the original. This, the PNG, is just a copy of the JPG, sharpened, lightened, and cropped. There is nothing in this image that is not in the JPG. While we certainly keep different images of notable people (Grabski was Prime Minister of Poland), we do not generally keep different crops of the same image. Jim . . . . - Comment Well, then, the argument for deletion is not valid. We should keep the PNG because it is more valuable than the original JPG—it is sharper and nicely lightened, and is overall a better portrait than the original JPG. That goes far beyond its being simply a different crop. Somebody has put a lot of work into getting it right, making something that is more useful than the original. We need to be making that useful work available to all commons users. There is no redundancy here in keeping both versions of the image. 85.94.184.115 20:31, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
