Title |
English: Portrait of Léopold Clément de Lorraine, Hereditary Prince of Lorraine (1707-1723)
Before attributed as Nicolas Ferry (Bebe). (This young man in the court dress, painted together with his dog by an unknown artist is Nicolas Ferry, nick-named Bébé dwarf of the court of King Stanisław Leszczyński who was also the Duke of Lorraine the father in law of Louis XV. Nicolas was born in the Plaine Bas-Rhin France in 1739 he measured at his birth a mere 24cm; for a cradle he used a clog, lined with wool. Fully grown he was 70cm tall, his intelligence was not very developed. He died in 1764 aged 25. The painter has given his subject the look of a boy of normal height; " Bébé " looks like a well proportioned child in the painting.) |
