Français : 3 juin 1856. Napoléon III accompagné d’un ministre et de deux généraux, visitant en barque les sinistrés de Tarascon lors de l’inondation de mai-juin 1856. « Les communications entre cette ville et Avignon sont complètement interrompues, par suite de la rupture des chemins de fer que les eaux du Rhône ont coupé sur plusieurs points. Sa Majesté a traversé dans un bateau, au milieu des champs inondés, un espace de cinq kilomètres qui le séparait de Tarascon. L'Empereur profondément ému, a parcouru dans son bateau les rues de cette ville entièrement envahie par les eaux, et a distribué des consolations et des secours aux habitants réfugiés dans les étages supérieurs de leurs maisons ».
